TURKEY: HISTORY IN MOTION – TÖRÖKORSZÁG: TÖRTÉNELMI MOZGÁSBAN

Turkey has become one of the major topics of international news for nearly a decade. The latest is the failed coup and its aftermath. Countless writers, journalists, academicians, teachers, judges, lawyers, civil servants, army officers are taken into custody, jailed without trial on the pretext of unpatriotic activities reminiscence of the McCarthy era or the days of Stalinism. Once a secular society with a parliamentary democracy albeit its flaws has been Islamized to a great extent and has fallen into an authoritative regime with neo-ottoman aspirations. As a result all basic civil rights have been abandoned and the country is at war at home and in Syria.
A historical perspective is necessary to find answers as to how and why Turkey has undergone an immense change since Mr. Erdogan and his party came to power. In order to meet this aim the current state of affairs in Turkey will be evaluated focusing on the turning points of the Ottoman-Turkish history under the heading Turkey: history in motion.
Törökország a nemzetközi hírek egyik fontos témája lett, mostanában főként a sikertelen puccs következményei miatt. Számtalan író, újságíró, akadémikus, tanár, bíró, ügyvéd, közszolga és katonatiszt került tárgyalás nélkül börtönbe. Az egykori szekuláris társadalom parlamentáris demokráciával iszlamizálódott és egy autoriter rezsim neo-ottomán törekvéseinek vált áldozatává. Az alapvető emberi jogokat már nem tartják tiszteletben és Szíriával is háborúban állnak. Erdogán alatt végbemenő hirtelen változás megértéséhez történelmi perspektívára van szükség.
Yücel Göktürk:
Writer, journalist and co-founder of an independent journal by the name 1+1 Express which has been in print since 1994. He studied Mass Communication and Media (graduate) and Political Science (post-graduate) in Ankara, Turkey. He is the co-author of three books one of which is on Ottoman history.
Az előadó Yücel Göktürk író, újságíró, társalapítója a független 1+1 Express folyóiratnak. (1994 óta jelenik meg.) Tömegkommunikációt és Médiát valamint Politikatudományokat tanult. Három az Ottomán történelmet tárgyaló kötet szerzője.
